Birchwood Semifinalists Recognized in PSEG LI's Video PSA Contest
Congratulations to Sophia Occhiuto and Sadie Singer from Birchwood Intermediate School who were named semifinalists for PSEG Long Island’s Video PSA Contest! The two fifth graders were among 177 students in grades fourth through eighth that submitted videos for this contest.
This year about 5,000 students overall participated in the educational program, I AM EM-Powered Program and Student Challenge, sponsored by PSEG Long Island. The program provides STEM coursework on “energy conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy in alignment with current educational standards on these topics,” according to PSEG Long Island’s website.
Students were asked to create commercials on how to save the environment and their teachers would then select their favorite three videos to be submitted and judged by the contest rubric. These students’ projects will be on display at the Long Island Children’s Museum over the summer.
Congratulations to Sophia and Sadie on this achievement!
BOE member, Fred Scragg, and Birchwood teachers, Mrs. Guittard and Mrs. Rufrano, were joined by PSEG LI representative Peter Hornick in congratulating Sophia and Sadie.
