Silas Wood Educators Receive Grant Award
Ms. Jaclyn Patino, the Silas Wood Makerspace teacher, and Ms. Sarah Wyhowanec, the Instructional Technology Coach for grades 6-8, were announced as the winners of the Western Suffolk BOCES Model Schools Grant Award 2021-2022! Together they submitted an application in hopes of winning $1,000 to be used towards Silas’ new Makerspace. The application asked the teachers to submit a lesson of their choice that exemplified technology within a specific academic area. The chosen lesson integrated science and technology. Their students had the opportunity to use 3Doodler 3D Printing Pens to create and design catapults. This project showcased the science unit on simple machines.
Both Ms. Patino and Ms. Wyhowanec will be honored at the annual Model Schools Award Ceremony to speak about the lesson they submitted. This grant will be used to help support the new space and to purchase additional supplies for the many tools the students use while in the Makerspace!
Congratulations and thank you to Ms. Jaclyn Patino and Ms. Sarah Wyhowanec!
